03/01/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Name and A#: Taz KNOWN HISTORY: Indoor and/or Outdoor? Indoor Litter box training: Y Other notes: Little known history obtained Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: no change Reaction to assessor: Does not come forward Reaction when softly spoken to: Did not come forward but looks at assessor Reaction to cage door opening: No response Reaction to touch: Allows assess-a-hand to rub head and chin not tolerating gloved hand Reaction to being picked up: Will not allow pick up MEDICAL NOTES: Scared – crouched at back of cage, doesn’t move for exam ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Laid back POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Taz is displaying fearful behavior during his stay in the care center and would shift away with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _X_ Experienced cat parent – Taz tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
