*** SAFE 12/13/17 *** TANG is a 19 lb neutered boy whose owner dumped at the shelter. Tang was reported to be about 10 yrs old. He has a pea sized mass on his ear which should be checked by a vet. He also should have some follow up dental after adoption. Who will give this super sized boy a new furever home?

I came into the shelter as a stray on 05-Dec-2017.

Tang is at risk for medical reasons. He is a geriatric gentlemen with underlying health issues, including dental disease, gingivitis, a mass on his ear, and he is obese. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Tang, and believe that he is suitable for most homes.

Upon intake, Wang allowed to be collared and began purring as I pet him on his head and throughout the top of his body. Wang was trying to flee but was not bothered when I held him. Wang allowed me to carry him and place him into his kennel. Once in the kennel, Wang would meow and head butt the cage door and allowed to be petted through the gate.

Basic Information:: Wang is a 10 year old male white and orange domestic short haired cat. Wang lived with previous owner for about 10 years and was surrendered because owner was moving out of state where she could not keep her cat. Wang has no injuries or health issues and has not been seen by a vet recently.

How is this cat around strangers?: Wang is friendly and outgoing with strangers. Wang will approach strangers and allows to be petted and enjoys belly rubs.
How is this cat around children?: Wang has interacted with children of all ages. Wang is friendly and affectionate and will allow children to pet him. Wang also likes to sit on children’s lap.
How is this cat around other cats?: Wang has no interacted with other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Wang has not interacted with dogs
Behavior Notes: During car rides, Wang is relaxed or sleeping. Wang is not bothered when being bathed and enjoys having is coat brushed. Wang also enjoys being pick up and held and also likes to sit on your lap. Wang is not bothered when being put into a carrier.

Wang was kept indoors only and was fed Meow Mix dry food 3 times a day. Wang is litter box trained and used a hooded litter box with Fresh Step cat litter. Wang had a scratching post made out of carpet and smooth wood but he did not show any interest in it.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Resting in middle of cage, soft eyes and body. Chirped and came to the front when spoken to. Head-butted, leaned and arched into pets, purred. Ate offered treats, then went back and lay down again.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Tang remains neutral, lying down by the front during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Tang becomes alert with soft eyes and loose body.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Tang stands with tail up, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Tang leans into the assessor’s hand, purrs and appreciates the petting on the head and body.
