Hello, my name is Tabby. My animal id is #12884. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 17-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Tabby is at risk for medical reasons. He has contracted Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Tabby’s behavior has been assessed as making him suitable for a cat experienced home.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Reported 10 years old – exam is consistent with this Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg on intake History : Owner surrender – no health hx reported Subjective: “Shut down” – at the back of the kennel, unmoving. When one approaches the kennel, pt attacks the door and climbs the walls to get away Sedated with 0.4 ml Dexdomitor IM for exam Objective Sedated, MMs pink and moist, BCS 8/9 EENT: OU moderate mucoid ocular discharge, mild chemosis. Ears clean, no nasal discharge noted. Oral Exam: Mild tartar PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male neutered MSI: Mats on dorsum. Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: Conjunctivitis in older obese male neutered cat with some mats Prognosis: Good Plan: Running CBC/chemistry Move to isolation, start erythromycin OU BID x10 days Recommend weight loss of 3-5 lbs 1088
CBC: Normal Hct, WBC, Plt. Slightly elevated retic count (55.8 k/ul) – R/O related to conjunctivitis vs. spurious Chemistry: Elevated globulins (5.7) – R/O conjunctivitis NOSF

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake Tabby allowed minimal handling. He allowed being removed from a box carrier however he ran into the other carrier. When attempting to pet Tabby cowered, turned around and remained to the back of the carrier. No further handling was performed.

Basic Information:: Tabby is a roughly 10 year old cat whom was gotten from a relative and kept in the same home for 2 months. Unfortunately due to allergies he could not be kept.

How is this cat around children?: Around children he is described as fearful and doesn’t play
How is this cat around other cats?: He has never been socialized with other cats so this behavior is unknown
How is this cat around dogs?: He has never been socialized with dogs so this behavior is unknown
Behavior Notes: Tabby is known to have no behavior issues and will sleep during car rides. While with the previous owner he was not given a bath, had his nails trimmed and is afraid of being picked up and placed in a carrier.

For a New Family to Know: He is described as mellow, shy, fearful, quiet and independent. He enjoys staying by the radiator while home with you, was being free fed Iams dry food, prefers a hooded litter box with clumping litter and a scratching post made of carpet.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: “Shut down” – at the back of the kennel, unmoving. When one approaches the kennel, pt attacks the door and climbs the walls to get away
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Tabby remains tense, crouched position at the back of the cage during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Tabby becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Tabby remains immobile in place.
Reaction to touch:: Tabby accepts the touch, but remains stiff and looks away during the interaction with no interest.
