Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Immobile VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Skittish ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/14/17- Still in carrier since intake, looking through bars, eyes fully dilated. Started hissing on approach, then began growling when door opened. Showed no interest in leaving carrier for treats. 5/15/17- Still in carrier on first visit. Briefly stepped out on second visit. Very tense, eyes dilated, held body low to the ground. Able to remove carrier from cage and hang shoreline cover. Tolerated pets, but hissed. Ears flat, stiff posture. After interaction, crept over to litter box, hunched down, hid face. At the front on later visits, exploring, but hissed when cage cover lifted. 5/16/17- Seems very fearful today. Hunched on bedding as low as possible, head down, eyes dilated. Grumbled quietly when pet, then flattened ears and hissed once. 5/17/17- Very anxious and tense. Hunched low on bedding, extremely stiff posture, eyes dilated. Flattened ears, hissed, started grumbling when door opened. Held immobile when pet, continued hissing. Ate treats when left alone, but froze in place when cage cover was lifted. 5/18/17 Still wary, seems conflicted today. Crouched on bedding, ears sideways, but eyes not dilated. Allowed and actually started to lean into pets. No hissing, quiet grumbling? Meowed quietly when spoken to on later visits. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Suzie looks tense, crouched position on her cage bedding when approached. Reaction to cage door opening: Suzie stiffens up in place, alert with eyes wandering. Reaction to touch: Suzie accepts the touch, but becomes uncomfortable with ears to the side, and began to low growl to stop the interaction. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Suzie may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
