***SAFE 02/22/18***SILVER TABBY SULLIVAN NEEDS NEW FRIEND! SULLIVAN is a three year old handsome fella who was dumped at the shelter due to some alleged litterbox issues. The dude was not neutered which may explain why he was having some “aggression” as well as not using his box regularly. It doesn’t seem like his former family bothered to address the issue with a vet nor bother to get him fixed. This boy is not a happy camper and needs a kind and patient purrson who is willing to help him decompress and learn to trust humans. He will surely be neutered before leaving the shelter and please do everything to ensure that this beautiful boy leaves through the front door. Be Sullivan’s special someone by offering to foster or adopt. MUST BE PULLED THROUGH A NEW HOPE RESCUE. CONTACT OUR HELP DESK FOR ASSISTANCE. MUST BE RESERVED BY NOON TOMORROW.

CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Inappropriate elimination,Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Sullivan’s previous owners report that he was eliminating (urinating and/or defecating) outside the litter box for on a daily basis. We are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Sullivan has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New hope only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Sullivan is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
