She meows when she seeks attention and likes to lay down on people lap. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – impossible to touch, netted–exam still very hard. Trying to bite. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/01/17 Calm and relaxed, lying down on her blanket at the back of the cage. She perks up and comes forward as soon as I called her name. Very vocal, meows softly as she rubs her body against the cage door. Doesn’t mind being pet with the bear claw through the door. Remained social and friendly. She sniffs my hand and accepts petting on her head and along her body. Her tail pilo-erects and immediately starts swaying back & forth with every stroke. Appears to get overstimulated with prolonged interactions; she whips around, vocalizes then swats. Relaxes after a few seconds then goes back to soliciting attention. Sweet chunky girl! EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Suga was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Suga approaches the front and presses her head against the door. She plops on the ground after and rolls over, continuing to rub her head on the door. Reaction to cage door opening: Suga greets the assessor by the opening. Reaction to touch: Suga head-butts right away and begins to purr. She leans hard for cheek rubs and allows petting along her body. After lots of rubs, her tail begins to quiver and sway sideways. When petting continues, she nips the assessor’s hand gently, but continues to solicit more attention. She doesn’t nip as long as I pet her very gently and don’t get too rough. Reaction to being picked up: Suga allows pick up, but wiggles to be placed back down. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate, Lively VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Affectionate, Insistent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Overstimulation – Suga is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before she becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Suga solicits attention and appreciates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention and becomes overstimulated with prolonged interactions. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced.
