Stripes’ previous owner reports he is shy for a few minutes around strangers, but is gentle when playing with adults. He was respectful around children, but wasn’t playful. He lived with female and male cats, and was respectful and tolerant around them. Stripes is described as friendly, affectionate, shy, and mellow with a low activity level. When at home, he’s normally relaxing in his favorite spots and enjoys balls and string.
Reaction to assessor: Stripes was calm and relaxed by the front.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Stripes leans his head on the wall of his cage.
Reaction to cage door opening: Stripes remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Stripes leans in for petting, but becomes distracted by things happening in the room.
Reaction to being picked up: Stripes is calm for pick up, but tries to jump back into the cage.
Behavior Determination: Average
Stripes interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
Stripes is a 3 and a 1/2 neutered male. His previous owner got him from the person who owned him prior. He has no known injuries or health problems. The last time he went to the vet was 2 months ago.
Around strangers Stripes was shy for a few minutes and when he played with adults he was gentle. He spent time with children and was respectful but didn’t play. He lived with both female and male cats and with them he was respectful and tolerant.
Stripes has never attempted to bite a person or animal. In car rides he would meow then relaxed. His previous owner has never attempted to give him a bath. He is tolerant of having his nails trimmed as long as he is in a towel. He enjoys being brushed. He struggles to get down when picked up. He runs away when placed in a carrier. He isn’t bothered if he is disturbed while sleeping.
For a New Family to know:
Stripes is described as friendly, affectionate shy and mellow with a low activity level. When home he’s normally relaxing in his favorite spots and enjoys balls and string. He was kept indoors only and slept on the couch. He was fed weight control dry Natures Balance. His previous owner believes he would do best in a home with enough space. He is litter box trained, and used a hooded litter box and clumping cat litter. He scratched on a leather couch.
Behavior during intake:
Stripes head-butted. He allowed me to collar him, pet him and take his pictures, he showed no signs of aggression.
