Behavior::
KNOWN HISTORY:
Strawberry was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Growling and swatting even with sedation. Charges the front of the cage
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
08/07/17
Lying in litterbox with a flat body, ears flattened and hissing as I approach. I place some tuna in front of her kennel and she comes forward to sniff it. Doesn’t eat the tuna and then returns back to her litterbox. Begins rolling over in her box when spoken to. She then walks to the other side of the kennel and stretches. I open the kennel door and she begins rolling around on the kennel floor. She allows gentle petting along her head and body with the bear-claw, head-butting it and continuing to roll. Fur becomes pilo-erect along tail and lower back and eyes are dilated. She begins kicking the bear-claw with her hind legs, then pulls bear-claw close to her face and head-butts it. Showing some conflicted behaviors.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Strawberry was relaxed and rubbing her body up against the cage door.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Strawberry reaches out with soft paws and continues soliciting attention.
Reaction to cage door opening: Strawberry is calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Strawberry’s tail pilo-erects and starts to quiver when the assessor starts interacting with her. She leans in for attention, purrs and allows petting all over her body. Her tail sway back and forth when rubbed and she whips around quickly when she gets excited.
Reaction to being picked up: Strawberry was a bit tense when picked up, but she remained calm and allowed all handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively
VOCAL: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet, Affectionate, Social
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Overstimulation – Strawberry is social and affectionate but appears to show signs of overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Strawberry becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Strawberry interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. She’s very affectionate and appears to show signs of overstimulation but does show appropriate self-control. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction.

Lying in back of kennel with a relaxed body. She comes forward when I open the kennel door and head-butts my hand. Allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and raising tail. Head-butts my head enthusiastically and leans in with her shoulders. Remains in front of her kennel for the duration of the session and allows all petting. Tail becomes pilo-erect with prolonged interaction but she offers no correction during this session. Doing great today! Sprayed feliway.
