Hello, my name is Storm. My animal id is #11099. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 29-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Storm is being placed at risk due to behavior (Adult Only determination). He can’t be placed in adoptions due to becoming overstimulating and nipping. At this time there are no medical concerns for Storm.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: 2 children and 2 adults Behavior toward strangers: Storm is described as shy and curious around strangers. Behavior toward children: Storm is tolerant of children. Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Energy level/descriptors: Medium Other notes: Storm is described as independent and that is the owner’s favorite thing about him.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Initially allowed touching then became fractious scratching and hissing
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/30/17 Resting on bedding, eyes dilated, crouched low. Seemed unsure. Started hissing and grumbling when door opened, retreated to other kennel. Leaned away when attempted touch, lifted paw and threatened to swat. Sprayed thunderease. 10/31/17 Resting next to litter box, soft posture but eyes dilated. Started grumbling quietly and tail flicking on approach. Became alert and sat up when door opened. Sniffed offered assess-a-hand, then hissed and retreated to crouch in litter box.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Storm remains neutral, lying down on his kuranda bed during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Storm becomes alert with eyes wide open, looking around his surroundings.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Storm remains in place, ears erect and froward.
Reaction to touch:: Storm sniffs at first, then slowly leans into the assessor’s hand, but during petting he becomes agitated when touched on the back and began to follow the hand and hissed. He seems to be conflicted because once the petting stopped he continues to solicit attention. If the petting continues, he huffs and puffs then gently places mouth on the hand and hisses as warning to stop the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Storm tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
