10/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stitch was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was fearful upon intake and did not allow handling to be conducted. He attempts to flee during his initial medical exam and attempts to swipe in an attempt to avoid restraint and handling. He allowed handling to be conducted once wrapped around in a towel. The enrichment facilitator reports he appeared stressed during their first interaction, mainly due to being held in a stressful location. Although he was nervous, he leaned forward to smell their hand. He seemed to have calmed down the second day and would approach the front for attention, leaning in for head rubs. He continued to show progressive improvement with each day and now appears to be social; he appreciates all petting and attention, and displays friendly behaviors when approached. Reaction to assessor: Stitch slowly approaches the front and is calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Stitch sits in the middle of his kennel and looks at the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Stitch steps back slightly, but remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Stitch sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts lightly. He arches his back, begins to purr, and rubs against the assessor throughout the interaction. Reaction to pick up: Stitch is tense during pick up and wiggles to be placed back down when held. He continues to solicit attention when placed back in his kennel, rubbing against the assessor and purring. Behavior Determination: Average Stitch interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. He may need some time to warm up to his new home, but he is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
