MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: allows exam, calm ENRICHMENT NOTES: Comes forward, tail raised as she begins to knead the kennel floor. She nips my hand gently before I begin petting her, not enough pressure to break skin or cause pain. Allows petting along her head and body while leaning in gently, turning head to watch my hand as it passes along her back. She gains confidence with continued petting and begins to lean in with more energy. Continues to knead paws and begins to purr. Shows signs of over stimulation with further interaction, tail becoming pilo-erect at the base as she licks and then nips my hand. Nips have been gentle so far, can be a sign of affection or a sign of over-stimulation. Sweet and social, doing well! 09/20/17 At front of kennel. Purring and kneading kennel floor. Reaches out towards me with soft paws. She allows petting along her head and body while purring and leaning in. Tail is raised. She remains in front of her kennel, right next to me, and allows all petting for duration of this session. Licks and nips my hand with the softest amount of pressure. 09/22/17 Social and sweet. Reaction to touch: Stella allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and kneading the kennel floor. She purrs, fur becoming pilo-erect at the base of her tail. She licks the assessor’s hand with continued petting and then gently grabs the hand with her mouth. The nip causes no pain – is done with minimum pressure. Tail is raised and quivering. The nip causes no pain – is done with minimum pressure. Tail is raised and quivering. Reaction to being picked up: Stella allows assessor to pick her up and hold her. She continues to purr, then jumps back into her kennel. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet Affectionate Playful POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation Potential challenges comments: Stella is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Stella becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Stella allows petting but due to her showing some subtle signs of over-stimulation and a bite incident with her previous foster we must recommend that this cat goes to a home with experienced cat parents.
