SQOOSHI needs some bloodwork to make sure there is no underlying issues since she is underweight and a check for a heart murmur. Please give a senior kitty a new home today!!

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 23-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.

Sqooshi is at risk for medical concerns, she is geriatric with possible underlying conditions. A full veterinary geriatric work up including blood work is strongly recommended upon placement or adoption. Sqooshi has been friendly and allowed all handling in the care center.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 9yrs Microchip noted on Intake? no History: O/S due to travels a lot and no time for cat Subjective: Cat is QARH Observed Behavior – shy/timid, needs assistance of towel to restrain, tends towards flight rather than fight, startled by quick movements/noises Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective T = NA P = 200+ R = 50 BCS 2-3/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears ceruminous debris, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Grade 3/4 dental dz PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, Possible Grade II/VI heart murmur, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female, no obvious spay scar or tattoo MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment: Senior underlying – underweight, moderate-severe dental dz, possible heart murmur Prognosis: Fair-Good Plan: Recommend senior bloodwork (CBC/CS/T4/UA + Cardiopet proBNP). Sqooshi was very vocal during intake and tried to flee off the table. She was easily picked up for counselor but did struggle when she was collaring her.

Basic Information:: Sqooshi is a 9 year old, gray tabby DSH female. Her owner has had her for the last 3 years but was unsure if she was spayed. She has not taken her to see a vet but has no known health issues or injuries. She was surrendered due to the owner traveling for work and not having enough time to care for her at home

How is this cat around strangers?: Sqooshi takes a few minutes to warm up to people. She is shy but after adjusting will come up and approach them.
How is this cat around children?: Sqooshi has not spent time around children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Sqooshi has spent time around other cats for short periods of time and was respectful and tolerant with them.
How is this cat around dogs?: Sqooshi has not spent time around dogs.
Behavior Notes: Sqooshi’s owner has not bathed or trimmed her nails, but she stated Sqooshi enjoys being brushed. She is able to pick her up and hold her, and putting her in a carrier is not a struggle.

For a New Family to Know: Sqooshi is described as being friendly, affectionate and mellow. Shes likes to follow her owner around when she is home and enjoys sitting on her lap in the evenings. She likes to play with balls, string toys, and catnip toys. She has been an indoor cat and sleeps either on her owners bed or her bed. She eats both wet and dry food and is litter box trained using a hooded box with crystal litter. She is not a scratcher in the home.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Shy/timid, needs assistance of towel to restrain, tends towards flight rather than fight, startled by quick movements/noises
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/24/17 Crouched in back of kennel, body neutral and ears forward. She makes eye contact and stretches as I reach towards her, raising her tail halfway and then hissing. She then retreats through her portal and raises her tail as I pet her along the back as she’s passing through. Pokes head out through portal when I call her. Conflicted – needs more time to adjust. Has potential to warm up. 12/26/17 Crouched in back of kennel, body tense and tail wrapped around body. She walks slowly to her portal with a low body and tail as the cage door opens, and turns her head to hiss when spoken to. I approach her slowly with the bear-claw and she steps forward to sniff it, ears forward. Stands up and leans in for petting when touched along the head and back, tail raising. She warms up once touched and allows all petting for the remainder of the session. Purrs. Rolling over and kneading after interaction has ended. Tense and unsure when cage door is closed – warms up once approached for petting. Did well today! 12/27/17 Tense and lying down on her blanket near the front of the kennel. She lip licks then slowly turns her head away. Seems unsure of her surroundings and retreats to the back of the kennel when the door opens. She accepts gentle petting on her head and body. Her tail rises and she arches her back when pet along her body. She approaches the front, purrs, gives head butts and allows petting all over. Doing better! 12/28/17 Seems more outgoing and confident today. She sniffs my hand then gently leans in, and accepts petting all over. Her tail perks up and starts to quiver. She doesn’t seems to mind being touched along her back. Occasionally she’ll vocalize and turns around, but she doesn’t display any further reaction. Purrs and she solicits attention. Doing great! Loves treats.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Sqooshi lip licks then slowly turns her head away.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Sqooshi rises up and retreats to the back of the kennnel.
Reaction to touch:: Sqooshi seems unsure, sniffs around and accepts gentle petting on her head and body. Her tail rises and she arches her back when pet along her body. She approaches the front, purrs, gives head butts and allows petting all over.
Reaction to being picked up:: Sqooshi was a bit tense when picked up, but she remains calm and allows all handling.
