Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Spain was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Reaction to assessor: Spain was crouched in the back of the kennel hiding behind her blanket avoiding eye contact. Reaction when softly spoken to: Spain has low body posture and slowly unravels herself and focuses on the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Spain becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Spain’s ears bend flat and she leans away when the assessor extends his hand out. She hisses then swats at the assessor and allows no contact. Her body is tense and she curls up tight and turns her head towards the wall. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Spain is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
