*** GONE 09/20/16 *** GOOD WITH CATS AND KIDS, DUMPED BECAUSE HE’S DIABETIC!!…SOLY is an ebony guy who is 6 years old and NEUTERED….He has been with his family since he was a kitten but that wasn’t enough for them to stand by him in his time of need. Diabetes in cats is very controllable and may go into remission. There is an even an organization which helps diabetic cat owners and fosters called Diabetic Cats In Need…..PLEASE GIVE SOLY A CHANCE TO BE IN A HOME AGAIN AND HEALTHY!! I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 09/18/2016 from NY 10011, owner surrender reason stated was PET HEALTH.

9/19/16 Hx: Reported diabetic by former owner. It isn’t known whether this cat was previously on treatment for diabetes. S: Alert, calm, allows full exam O: BAR-H, BCS 6/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: No discharge OU, AU, nose. Mild tartar and gingivitis. PLNs: Not enlarged. H/L: NSR, NMA. Eupnic, quiet lung sounds. Abd: Soft, no pain on palpation, no masses palpated M/S/I: Amb x4. No skin lesions noted. UG: Male neutered. Bladder palpable, large and semi-full A: Diabetes mellitus, BG yesterday 589! Short-term prognosis: Fair P: Start Lantus 1 unit SQ BID directly after meal. Feed two meals daily but not more than that. Monitor glucose. 1088

09/18/16 13:51 Basic Information Soly is a 6 year old neutered domestic short hair who is being surrendered because owner cannot afford his medical needs. Owner got him from a friend when he was a kitten. Owner stated Soly has diabetes and last saw a vet last year. Socialization Soly is friendly around strangers. He lived with a 3 year old child. He was relaxed and respectful with the child. He plays in a gentle manner with kids and adults. He lived with 2 female cats’ ages 5 and 6. He was affectionate, respectful, and tolerant of them. They played in a gentle manner with each other. He has not lived with any other kind of animal. He has not bitten or scratched a person or animal. Behavior Soly has no behavior issues and slept during the train ride to our shelter. Owner has never bathed Soly. Soly is not bothered by having his nails trimmed, having his coat brushed, being picked up, placed in a carrier, or if disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know Soly is described as friendly, affectionate, and mellow with a medium activity level. When home he will do as he likes. He likes to play with mouse toys and balls. He is kept indoors only and sleeps anywhere in the house. He was fed dry and wet food brand name Purina. She left dry food available to him and gave him two to three cans of wet food a day. He uses an uncovered cat litter box with crystal style litter in it. He would scratch on a sofa made out of fabric. Behavior during Intake Soly tolerated all handling during intake. He arched his back when I petted him. No signs of aggression were displayed during intake.

He has not bitten or scratched a person or animal. Reaction to assessor: Soly comes to the front of the cage – soliciting attention and rubbing against the cage front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Soly stays at the front – continues to solicit attention and rubbing against the cage front. Reaction to cage door opening: Soly remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Soly solicits petting and attention – rubbing against the assessor’s hands. Reaction to being picked up: Soly calmly jumps back into the cage. Behavior Determination: Average Soly interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents
