02/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived indoors Previously lived with: An adult and another cat Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward strangers: Shy, will need time to warm up to them Behavior toward cats: Respectful with the cat he lived with, occasionally getting into altercations Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite history: None Litter box training: Yes, uses an uncovered box with clumping litter Energy level/descriptors: Mellow and quiet with low activity level. Other notes: He isn’t bothered by picking up and holding. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 2/23/17 In den, eyes dilated. Retreated further back to avoid touch. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Solo was lying down flat, attempting to hide inside the litter box. Reaction when softly spoken to: Solo’s ears tilt slightly sideways, but he doesn’t lift his head up to look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Solo remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Solo twitches when touched and he slowly lifts his head to look around with wide eyes. He is tense, but he lip licks and allows gentle petting with a slow approach and will bury his head back down for the rest of the interaction. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful – Solo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only – Solo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
