Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
KNOWN HISTORY:: Snapple was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -hissing, swatting
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/4/17 Resting towards back, eyes dilated. Seemed wary, looking around. Hissed when door opened. Put ears sideways, yowled, struck floor when offered treats. Left alone for now. Sprayed thunderease. 12/5/17 Curled up on kuranda bed, tense posture, eyes fully dilated. Hissed and started growling when door opened. Lifted paw as if to swat when offered treats, then leaned forward and sniffed instead. Hissed and lightly tapped assess-a-hand when attempted touch. Ate treats after door closed. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Snapple remains tense, lying down turned sideways on his kuranda bed during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Snapple remains cautious with eyes dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Snapple stiffens up in place, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Snapple increases distance, but when touched he briefly allows the petting then began to hiss.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Snapple tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at his/her own pace.
