***SAFE 09/05/17***WE KNOW YOU CAN’T WAIT TO SMOOCH WITH SMOOCH…an adorably plump kitty with a super cute pink nose and round cheeks. This tabby fella is a bit shy when he meets new people, and would be happiest in an experienced kitty home where he can explore and warm up at his own pace. This seven year old sweetheart is healthy (he may need follow up dental care) and was described by his former owner as friendly and affectionate. He’s stressed at the shelter and is ready to be your purrsonal pal and sofa snuggler. RESERVE HIM BY NOON TOMORROW!!!

08/25/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/25/17 16:22 Basic information: Smooch is a 7 yr old orange tabby DSH. He has never seen a vet but his owner stated that he has never had any health issues and has a good appetite and litter box habits. Socialization: Smooch is initially a little shy when guests enter the house, but after a few minutes he will warm up and approach for contact. He has spent time with young children and is relaxed around them, letting them pet him. He has not lived with another cat or any dogs. Behavior: Smooch’s owner described him as being friendly, affectionate and mellow. He has a low activity level and is not big on playing. He will follow the owner around the house and likes to be in the same room as her. She has trained him not to jump on furniture so he does not sit on her lap unless she is on the floor. Smooch has no bite history and is quiet in the car. He is not bothered while being bathed and allows for grooming, his nails being clipped is an adjustment but he has been tolerating it the more the owner clipped them. For a New Family to know: Smooch eats dry food and is litter box trained using both a covered and uncovered box. He will scratch on the furniture so would benefit from a post in his new home. Admissions intake behavior: Smooch was nervous, keeping a low body during intake but allowed for handling.

EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Smooch is on top of his kuranda bed, feint sleeping. Reaction when softly spoken to: Smooch continues to feint sleep, but blinks and looks around, appearing unsure. Reaction to cage door opening: Smooch becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Smooch sniffs the assessor’s hand, but shifts away to avoid contact. He flinches when touched and hisses once, but allows the assessor to pet him very slowly and gently. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Smooch has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may be uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parents – Smooch tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to his stress levels in the shelter, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
