*** SAFE 12/27/17 ***WATCH VIDEO! Terrific Tabby, approximately 8 years old and Beginner Rated!! SMOKEY is VERY friendly and one can see he is a people cat. SMOKEY seemed uncomfortable around other cats at the shelter so may need an only home or slow introduction to other cats.

Hello, my name is Smokey. My animal id is #16108. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 14-Dec-2017.
Smokey is at risk for being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Smokey will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no behavior concerns for Smokey at this time, beginner determination.

Upon intake, Smokey was head butting and rubbing his entire body to be petted. Smokey allowed all handling. Smokey was easily put into a carrier.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Smokey was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Smokey was head butting and rubbing his entire body to be petted. Smokey allowed all handling and was easily placed into a carrier.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Hissing, difficult to restrain but allowed most of exam
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Smokey meows and starts to solicit attention.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Smokey continues to press his head against the cage door and reaches out with his paws.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Smokey pushes against the door to greet the assessor, eager for attention.
Reaction to touch:: Smokey immediately head-butts and rubs all over the assessor with his entire body. His tail quivers and he is very affectionate, continuing to solicit attention throughout the interaction.
Reaction to being picked up:: Smokey allows handling, but wiggles to be placed back down and continues to solicit attention.
