***SAFE 08/16/16***GIVEN UP FOR ALLERGIES!!! SMOKE HAS LIVED WITH CHILDREN!!
A volunteer writes: Smoke is a beautiful long-haired cat who seems to want to come forward and meet you, but can’t quite get over his suspicion that your intentions may not be pure. His former human companions noted that he has been around children and that he is a good-natured cat, but I wasn’t able to coax him out to find out for myself. He did let me pet him, but he was too timid to allow himself to relax and enjoy the attention. He would need an experienced companion who is willing to give him the time and space to adapt to his new environment and all the love that you’d want to give him.

07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As pre pevious owner, Smoke is described as shy around strangers and takes several minutes to warm up to new people. He will engage in gentle play with adults. He has lived with children ages two and five. He is described as relaxed and affectionate around the children and will engage in gentle play. He has not been around other cats but has lived with a small breed dog. He is described as relaxed around the dog and respectful. Reaction to assessor: Smoke does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Smoke does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Smoke remains motionless Reaction to touch: Smoke allows petting and attention with a slow approach Try picking cat up: Smoke is tolerant of this type of handling but tense. Behavior Determination: Experience Smoke was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment he was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices he relaxed a little. I was able to pet him and interact with him in a limited way. I was also able to pick him up and although he was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
