***SAFE 05/14/17*** DAPPER SMITHSON IS A COOL AND CALM KITTY WHO WAS PICKED UP BY HIS “FINDER” AND PUT IN A SHOPPING CART AND WHEELED TO THE ACC! THIS BOY KNOWS WHAT HE WANTS AND TONIGHT THAT IS A NEW HOME! PLEASE RESERVE THIS GRAY TUX BY NOON!
Smithson is a cute young guy with an adorable white mustache who’s ready to start his life in a loving forever home! He can be a little shy around new people and would be happiest in an experienced kitty home with no children where he can warm up at his own pace. He doesn’t like being bothered when he’s not ready for it, but when he’s feeling more comfortable (such as during the snooze he took during his enrichment session!) he has allowed all petting. He even perked up and meowed a bit upon approach earlier today!

05/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Smithson was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Alert ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/08/17 Attempted to perform a behavior evaluation, but Smithson was sleeping heavily throughout the entire interaction. He doesn’t respond to voice, cage door opening, or to being poked and prodded. It took quite an effort to wake him up. He opened his eyes and his pupils dilate and un-dilate again, but he closes his eyes again and continues to rest. He does not appear to mind being pet all over and will place his paws on his face to get some more shut eye. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Smithson was crouched at the back of the kennel with his head lowered and his tail wrapped around his body. Reaction when softly spoken to: Smithson doesn’t make eye contact or get up/come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Smithson remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Smithson slowly turns his head and makes eye contact, then slowly moves away with his tail lowered. He closes his eyes and starts lip licking when rubbed on his head and along his body. His body feels tense; he seems a little uncomfortable and watches the assessor with focused eyes when rubbed along his back. He starts to grumble then slowly shifts away to the other side of the double kennel. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Smithson tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
