*** SAFE 03/04/17 *** This handsome kitty’s previous owner was having a hard time adjusting to Skits’ shy demeanor in a busy household, and poor Skits has found himself here at the shelter! Though he can startle easily and is cautious of new people, Skits has shown his incredibly sweet side as well. He appreciates petting, will approach and head-butt for attention (once he’s had time to become acquainted, of course!), and even let our feline behavior team hold him for a bit! This young guy would be happiest in a calm, quiet home with no children, and he’s willing and ready to move in and start his new life with a new forever family!

02/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Skits has never interacted with children, dogs or other cats. Behavior toward strangers: Skits hides and takes a few days to warm up to new people. Litter box training: Skits is litter-box trained and is used to a hooded box with clumping litter. Energy level/descriptors: Medium activity level; Mellow, shy, fearful. Other notes: Skits likes to play with string, wand toys, and toy mice. He likes being brushed. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 02/22/17 Lying low in a rear corner of kennel, quiet, head and eyes down, motionless. Extremely loud in the room, so difficult to interact. Doesn’t move when I open cage door and extend my hand slowly. Doesn’t sniff my fingers, but does allow me to give head rubs and some nose scratches. Didn’t react much to the touching. Didn’t display any aggression, remained quiet. Sprayed Feliway, gave fresh wet food and some treats, plus a catnip toy. Adding to socialization list. 02/27/17 He’s become a little braver, when the room’s quiet, will spend time in other sections of his triple kennel. When I approach he’s in the middle kennel, lying in his box, wide-eyed. I opened a cage door and easily coaxed him forward, though he was somewhat wary. He comes all the way to the front and to me, allowing petting and gently head-butting. He often spins away, quickly returning to me for more attention. I was able to pick up and hold him. I gave him some more head rubs, then started to shut the door. He hissed as I was closing the door and retreated, hissing some more, ears flattened. Skits doesn’t seem quite sure how to respond to attention, is wary. He gets startled easily by movements in the room and out in the hallway. A really handsome cat that could use a stable, experienced, serene home to build confidence. 02/28/17 At times, especially when the room’s quiet, he’s social, attention-seeking, appreciative of petting. He gets startled easily, though, and is still tense and wary in this really stressful, loud environment. He’s allowed me to pick him up and is much more active than when he arrived, using all three sections of his triple kennel. Really handsome grey boy, only 3yo. Needs a quiet, stable, mellow home that will allow him to build his confidence and feel assured by his surroundings. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet, Skittish, Independent
RECOMMENDATIONS: _X_ Experienced, adult home only Behavior observations _X_ Experienced, Adult Only Skits tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at his/her own pace.
