Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Previously lived with: Adults and children (ages 3 and up) Behavior toward strangers: Shy for a few days Behavior toward children: Respectful Behavior toward cats: Lived with other cats and was relaxed and affectionate Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Other notes: He enjoys getting his coat brushed and isn’t bothered being picked up. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Nervous but was well behaved and did not hiss or try to bite/scratch during medical handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/27/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low, flat body, head facing towards the wall. He hisses when the bear-claw touches him and whips his head around as the bear-claw passes along his back, mouth open. Uncomfortable – needs more time to adjust. 08/28/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel. Tilts ears and hisses when spoken to. Growls and watches the bear-claw as it moves forward with treats on it. No interest in treats at the moment. He gives the bear-claw two quick swats as I raise it slowly to touch his head. Not interested in further interaction right now. I check on him later and see him in the front of his kennel, eating his treats. He freezes and retreats to the back when notices me watching. 08/29/17 Lying down completely flat at the back of the cage. Head lowered, ears bent flat, avoids eye contact. Tense and wary of his surroundings. Doesn’t come forward when coaxed, not interested in interacting. He arches his back, hisses and displays distance increasing behaviors when approached. Very uncomfortable, sprayed feliway and left him alone. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish RECOMMENDATIONS: Placement with a New Hope partner – Skip is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
