05/02/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sinatra was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. His finder reports that he was social, friendly and was kept indoors only for 2 weeks. He was never exposed to other animals but spent time with children (ages 12&13) and got along well with them. Sinatra doesn’t have a bite history and he doesn’t mind when the finder picks him up/ holds him. The finder noticed Sinatra started chasing his tail and biting it, he eventually caused an open wound that appears to have healed. His finder describes him as a friendly, affectionate and playful cat. He uses an uncovered litter box with clay litter and would sometimes scratch on the wood areas in the home. Upon intake Sinatra appeared shy at first but relaxed after some time and allowed all handling. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Sinatra was crouched in his litter box, facing the wall. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sinatra’s ears rotate and he slowly looks around scanning his surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Sinatra remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Sinatra leans forward a bit to sniff the assessor’s hand and allows gentle rubs on his cheeks. It takes a few seconds for him to warm up to contact. After a couple soft pets he raises his rear then slowly rises up allowing petting all over. His tail remains lowered but occasionally rises when rubbed along his back. He looks around the kennel before approaching the front then gently head butts when rubbed on his head. Reaction to being picked up: Sinatra was a bit tense when picked up but allowed all handling. He leaped back into the kennel shortly after and moved into his litter box. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Affectionate, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Sinatra may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
