07/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Simply was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on her behavior in her previous home. She allowed limited handling during intake, but attempted to flee. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Tries to flee ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/16/17 Lying in back litterbox with flat ears, body tense. She tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning away from my hand and squinting her eyes shut, ears flattened all the way down. Very uncomfortable with interaction at this time. Needs more time to adjust. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Simply was sitting upright by the back, looking around and was alert. Reaction when softly spoken to: Simply looks at the assessor, but slinks away to her other kennel and crouches over. Reaction to cage door opening: Simply becomes alert, and shifts to her other kennel space again. Reaction to touch: Simply was hesitant and shifts away to avoid contact. Once in a corner, she sniffs the assessor’s hand when approached very slowly. She flinches when touched, but tolerates gentle petting, though her body does a wave when stroked gently. She attempts to move away to avoid further contact and blinks. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Simply tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
