Hello, my name is Simba. My animal id is #14338. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 21-Nov-2017.
Original Location: 10016
Simba is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. We suggest Simba be placed in a cat experienced home.

Tortuga allowed to be picked up and transported into a crate. Tortuga did not interested in food. Tortuga’s eyes were dilated. Tortuga was lip licking and kept backing up further inside the carrier. Admissions counselor was able to take tortuga and snapped a quick picture before it retreated back into the carrier.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Simba was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -netted due to initial reports, but calm, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/22/17 Curled up asleep in litter box on approach. Woke when door opened, lay in place, eyes dilated, wary. Held immobile when pet, sprayed thunderease. 11/26/17 Crouched in litter box, tense, eyes dilated. Hissed when spoken to, flinched away from touch. Sprayed thunderease. 11/27/17 Crouched behind litter box, tense, eyes dilated. Sat up and became alert when door opened, eyes darting. Briefly tolerated pets, then moved away to avoid further touch. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Simba remains tense, crouched position with head up hiding in the cage cubby during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Simba becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Simba stiffens up in place with ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Simba flinches when touched and began to lip lick while placing head down during the interaction.
