KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: An adult Other notes: Enjoys Petting, Uses a scratch post, and is more shy, hides a lot MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 3/27/17- Observed Behavior: calm, allows handling–post exam began striking ENRICHMENT NOTES: 3/28/17- Hunched low in litter box, eyes dilated, ears sideways, stiff posture. Retreated, growled, started to lip lick when touched. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Simba remains crouched position facing the back of the cage. Reaction to cage door opening: Simba focuses on the assessor’s hand with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Simba accepts a brief touch on the body, but quickly becomes agitated then swats and hisses. Reaction to being picked up: Unable to perform due to behavior. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Motionless VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Independent BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Simba is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner
