***SAFE 03/21/16 *** ROOM FOR A SHY GAL IN YOUR LIFE?? ….A volunteer writes: Shy little Simba is a pretty brown tabby girl. She is timid, for sure, and couldn’t be easily coaxed to come to meet me at her kennel door. But she really liked having her neck and chin rubbed, so I know there’s a loving kitty in there somewhere, waiting for the opportunity to come out and be herself. She just needs some time to feel trusting and comfortable in her new surroundings. Once she does, I bet that Simba will let herself be loved and will love in return….FOUR YEARS OLD, SPAYED & AVERAGE RATED, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? Apply to FOSTER or ADOPT NOW!! There is no known history of her being another person or animal. BEHAVIOR Simba tends to cry slot and when there is an open door he will try to escape. He also has litter box accidents, that has been going on for about 6months to a year. He is doing it daily and he is both pooping and peeing outside of the box. A vet hasn’t been seen about this problem and it has been occurring since she started dating her male friend. Isn’t bothered when being placed in a carrier. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Simba is described as being friendly, affectionate, talkative and confident with a high activity level. When home she tends to follow you around, Simba enjoys playing with her balls, wand toys and laser pointer. Mostly kept indoors, she slept anywhere comfortable. Simba was free fed dry food and has a hooded litter box with clumping litter. Simba had a scratching post made of carpet She will do bets in a home with older people because she likes to relax and sleep. 03/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Around stranger she is shy for a few minutes but will open up with you when she gets familiar. With adults she is somewhat rough because she likes to hand play. Simba hasn’t been around kids, or have experience with other dogs or animals. Reaction to assessor: Simba does not come to front but looks at you calm and relaxed When spoken quietly: Simba does not come to front but looks at you calm and relaxed Reaction to door cage opening: Simba remains soft and relaxed Reaction to touch: Simba allows petting and attention while purring Try picking cat up: Simba is tolerant of this type of handling. Behavior Determination: Average At the time of the assessment Simba was displaying friendly behavior, did not come to the front of the kennel but interacts with the Assessor, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Simba is displaying behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents. Please note: Simba’s previous owner reported that she was urinating and defecating outside the litterbox for the past 6 months. She was not brought to the veterinarian for the issue and are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. However, please also note that this behavior began at the same time as a major environmental/family change when her owner began dating a new person, and this likely contributed to the change in behavior. We have no reports of eliminating outside the litterbox in the shelter. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior be observed in the future. We also recommend that Simba be provided with numerous litterboxes throughout the house as she adjusts to her new living space. The extra boxes can be removed as she learns the space and successfully defecates in her main litterbox(es).
