02/23/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/23/17 13:02 Basic: Simba is a 10 year old spayed declawed brown tabby. Simba’s owner adopted her from ACC 10 years ago and has had her ever since. She is surrendering her because Simba is urinating outside the litterbox and has hyperthyroidism. She also vomits daily before she eats. Simba was last seen by a vet 3 weeks ago. Socialization: Simba is very friendly around strangers. She has not spent time with children or other animals in the house besides another cat, which was for 1 year, and Simba was relaxed with the other cat. Simba plays gently with adults, and was gentle with the other cat she lived with when she was younger. Simba has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: Simba has been urinating outside the litterbox for the past 9 months, other than that she is well behaved. Simba is defecating in the litterbox. Simba has been seen by a vet for this problem but no one knows exactly why this is happening. Simba is quiet on car rides. Simba has never gotten a bath. Simba isnt bothered when she gets a nail trim, gets brushed, is picked up and held, is put in the carrier, is disturbed while resting. For new family: Simba’s owner describes her as friendly and affectionate. Her activity level is medium. Her owner loves how affectionate Simba is. Simba’s favorite activity is to cuddle and twirl in between her owner’s legs. When her owner is home Simba will stay in the room as her, and will watch her. She likes to play with balls, string toys, and the laser pointer. She has been kept mainly indoors. She sleeps in her owner’s bed. She is eating W/D Hills SD getting 1.5 cans 1xday. She has litterbox accidents daily and uses a hooded litterbox. She uses the clay fresh step litter. She does not have a scratching post, but will try to scratch on the furniture. During intake Simba was friendly and allowed all handling and collaring.

02/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived indoors Previously lived with: Adults and a one year old cat Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward strangers: Very friendly Behavior toward cats: Relaxed and gentle Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or scratch history: None Litter box training: Has been urinating outside the litter box for the past 9 months Energy level/descriptors: Friendly and affectionate, with a medium activity level Other notes: Owner loves how affectionate Simba is. Simba’s favorite activity is to cuddle and twirl in between her owner’s legs. When her owner is home Simba will stay in the room as her, and will watch her. She likes to play with balls, string toys, and the laser pointer. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Calm, allows most handling but growls occasionally. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Simba was sniffing around by the front, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Simba solicits attention by rubbing against the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Simba remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Simba was slightly hesitant, but she rubs her cheeks and her tail remains straight up during the interaction. She grumbles randomly during the interaction, but seems to appreciate petting and attention. Reaction to being picked up: Simba shifts away slightly, but allows handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, People Oriented POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Inappropriate elimination – Simba’s previous owner reports that she was urinating outside the litter box. Please note that she has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in the care center, which may be influencing the urination behavior. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a home environment after treatment for the medical condition has been completed, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Simba interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting, but she emits a growl sound during the interaction. This sound does not appear to be a warning or a distance-increasing behavior, and none of her body language matches that normally seen when a cat is growling, so at this time we are unsure how to interpret this response. We recommend using care when picking Simba up, especially while she is still adjusting to her new home, but otherwise we feel that she is appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of experience.
