Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Silk was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Tense, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/01/17 Lying in litter box with a low, tense body. Pupils are dilated and eyes are wide. Tolerates petting along head and body while leaning away and flattening ears. Nervous – needs more time to adjust. 11/02/17 Lying on top of kuranda bed with a low, tense body. Face is tense as well. She tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning away and flattening her ears. Makes eye contact. Sniffs the treats I place down in front of her but does not eat them. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Silk was curled up in the litter box with his tail wrapped at his side.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Silk remains tense and focused on the assessor’s movements.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Silk is wary and flinches when the door opens.
Reaction to touch:: Silk’s ears bend flat, the hair along his back pilo-erects and he low growls when approached. He shifts around and dodges the assessor’s hand but tolerates petting with a slow approach. His body trembles, his eyes dart around and he lip licks throughout the entire interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Silk has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Silk tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
