Behavior
KNOWN HISTORY:
Shy was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She allowed all handling during intake and allowed the counselor to place her inside a crate.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Observed Behavior – docile, sweet
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Shy was lying down, calm and relaxed upon approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Shy looks at the assessor and blinks very softly.
Reaction to cage door opening: Shy remains motionless, but looks around and lip licks.
Reaction to touch: Shy sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts petting. He was a bit hesitant and watches the assessor’s hand when pet along his body, but after a few strokes he begins to lift his rear and lean in for cheek rubs. He trembles slightly, but will nudge the assessor’s hand with his nose and lean in for more rubs.
Reaction to pick up: Shy remains soft and nuzzles against the assessor’s arms. When placed back in his kennel, he will retreat to the back, but slowly comes forward again when coaxed.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Sweet, Easy going
RECOMMENDATIONS:
– Experienced cat parent – Shy appears to appreciate attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. We also recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
