History : Found outside, not moving, appears to have broken leg
Subjective: Mews, alert, allows handling
Evidence of Trauma seen – Swelling in both elbows, non-ambulatory
Objective
BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 5/9
EENT: Mild purulent nasal discharge, mucoid ocular discharge. Clean ears.
Oral Exam: Deciduous canine. Two sets of permanent incisors are erupting.
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
U/G: Female intact kitten
MSI: Non-ambulatory in front legs. Both elbows are swollen. Skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat.
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: Normal externally
Administering: Hydromorphone 0.06 ml, ketamine 0.06 ml, Dexdomitor 0.03 ml – all IM – for rads
Lateral rads of front legs and hind legs, VD view of pelvis: left and right humerus are both fractured, displaced, at the distal humerus. The left humerus fracture appears to be more displaced than the right. No fractures seen in hind limbs or pelvis.
Assessment: Fractured left and right humerus
Prognosis: Fair
Plan:
1. Simbadol 0.15 ml SQ SID starting this evening
2. Recommend placement ASAP for orthopedic consult
SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to fractures
