I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 03/30/2017 from NY 10459, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

03/30/17 08:27 Shakespeare seems to be a young orange tabby that was brought in as a stray, fidner had him overnight and was able to pet him and pick him up. upon intake, counselor was able to pick him up place on table for intake photo and collar, he has a relaxed posture and went into carrier with out a problem

KNOWN HISTORY: Shakespeare was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was relaxed during intake and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Calm allowed all handling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Shakespeare looks at the assessor with soft eyes and body. Reaction when softly spoken to: Shakespeare continues to look at the assessor, and meows. Reaction to cage door opening: Shakespeare backs up slightly. Reaction to touch: Shakespeare hesitates, then leans into pets and rolls over. He abruptly startles, hisses, and retreats to the back of the cage. He allows further pets after this, but remains wary. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Sweet, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that this cat has a severe medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves. Shakespeare tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
