Energy level/descriptors: Shadow is described and a mellow, independent, and quiet cat with a low activity level MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: – Hissing, growling. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/13/17 Lying in front of kennel with a relaxed body. I open the kennel door and begin to pet him along his head and body – he remains in the front of his kennel and tilts his ears when my hand reaches his lower back. He turns his head and nips my hand with continued petting (not enough pressure to break the glove or skin). I pause. He stands up and allows further petting, leaning in with tail raised. More relaxed now, allows petting as he walks out of kennel. He remains close by with tail in the air – mellow and unfazed by noise and busyness of the room behind me. Remains calm when picked up and placed back into kennel. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Shadow is lying relaxed in the center of his kennel with his feet folded beneath him. Reaction when softly spoken to: Shadow makes eye contact when spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Shadow stretches and comes forward with a raised tail as the cage door opens. Reaction to touch: Shadow allows petting along his head and body, leaning in with his tail raised and quivering. Reaction to being picked up: Shadow remains relaxed as the assessor picks him up and holds him in their arms. Tail remains raised.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Social POTENTIAL CHALLENGES -Uncomfortable with other Cats / Kittens Shadow remains social and easy to handle with his human caretakers, but please be aware that Shadow may be uncomfortable around other cats. Their previous owner reports that Shadow would hiss, growl or swat whenever he noticed other kittens in thier home. Due to the described behaviors, we recommend Shadow goes to a home with no other cats OR into a multi-cat home with cat parents experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent During his stay in our care center Shadow has shown behavior appropriate for average cat parents, but due to an owner-surrender profile that mentions behavior concerns hissing/growling and swatting at kittens, fearful around strangers, bite history) it is possible he may end up displaying some behavioral issues in his new home that we were unable to observe in the shelter. Due to this reason we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents
