04/07/16 16:31 BASIC INFORMATION: Shadow is a black DSH male 5yr old cat. He was given to the owner 5 yrs ago and has shown signs of stiff hind legs, no medical diagnosis. Shadow is declawed on all four paws.Shadow has not been to a vet within the past year. Shadow has been surrendered to ACC due to a residential move to a home that does not allow pets. SOCIALIZATION: Shadow is unbothered by strangers and is tolerant when strangers pet him. He has resided with children ages 7 and under, also teenagers. Shadow loves to be pet & play, he plays gently with children & is tolerant of their presence. Shadow has resided with two other cats, was respectful & seeked play. Shadow has not been exposed to dogs. He has not bitten or scratched another animal or a person within the past 10 days. BEHAVIOR: Shadow is tolerant of baths and grooming. He loves water. Owner stated he kneads his paws when he lays by the water bowl and drinks his water while knewding. Shadow also lwill come into the tub whenowner is bathing. He may give a struggle to place him inside of carrier. When Shadow is asleep and is disturbed he is unbothered by it. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Shadow is best described as an independent, friendly & affectionate cat. He has a medium to low activity level. Shadow enjoys playing with rolled up socks. When owner is home, Shadow follows owner around the house. Shadow would do best in a family or single person home. Shadow has been kept indoors. He enjoys sleeping on the floor in the hallway or on owners bed. Shadow eats dry food from brand purina one. Shadow is litter box trained. He uses an uncovered litter box and uses clumping litter. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake, Shadow appeared to be social & friendly. Allowed handling until he started to sniff and pick up scents from the other cats. Shadow then began to hiss.

As per previous owner, Shadow is described as being independent, friendly and affectionate. He has lived with in a home with small children and teenagers and loves to play gently with them. Shadow has also lived with 2 other cats and was respectful and liked to play with them. Reaction to assessor: Shadow makes eye contact and comes forward slowly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Shadow remains motionless at the front with his tail at body level. Reaction to cage door opening: Shadow moves to back and lowers his tail. Reaction to touch: Shadow’s eyes are focused on all movements. He comes forward slowly and allows petting. His tail is lowered and he is focused on his surroundings. Reaction to being picked up: Shadow is tense when held and starts to grumble. He hisses to be placed down and retreats to the back. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Shadow tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
