Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Shadow was brought in without information on their behavior history in their previous home. Her finder reports she displayed fearful behavior and attempted to escape from her carrier.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/16/18 Observed Behavior – scared and cautious, but amenable to all aspects of examination
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/16/18 Tense and alert. Curled up in her litter box. Her ears tilt forward when I call her name, but she doesn’t come forward. She slow blinks and tolerates gentle petting on her head and body. Not interested in treats or tuna. Needs some time to adjust. 02/17/18 Perched on top her kuranda bed. Very tense and wary of her surroundings. She starts lip licking when I approach the kennel. Seems very uncomfortable. Tolerates petting with the bear claw. Her eyes dart around and she starts breathing rapidly. I offered her treats by the front and left her alone due to her stress levels. Blue cage cover was given so she has some privacy.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Shadow looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes and had a neutral body posture.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Shadow continues to make eye contact, but does not approach the front and remains in her spot.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Shadow becomes stiff and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Shadow was hesitant of touch and her eyes dart around, appearing like she wants to flee. She flinches when pet gently and shifts her body to avoid contact, but tolerates gentle strokes on her head and body, though she appears uncomfortable.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Shadow has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and appears uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Shadow tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
