***SAFE 01/09/18*** 11 YEAR OLD SHA-SHA WAS DUMPED AFTER OWNER BROUGHT A 2ND CAT IN THE HOME!! SHA-SHA was an only kitty with purrfect kitty manners. She began having litterbox issues when the new cat arrived and now the elderly owner cannot handle her care. SHA-SHA may have been just fine if another litter box was set up. Now she is in the shelter awaiting her end tomorrow if someone doesn’t offer to foster or adopt. SHA-SHA needs a furever home. Already spayed and ready to go! I came into the shelter as a stray on 23-Dec-2017.

Sha-Sha is at risk for behavioral reasons. Sha-Sha is extremely nervous and timid in the shelter, and avoids interaction. Sha-Sha is a geriatric lady and has had a couple of episodes of vomitting the past couple of days, which we suspect may be indicative of pancreatitis, and for which she is currently receiving treatment.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Reported 11 years old – exam is consistent with this Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg on intake – MC placed History : Surrendered. Lived in a house with 1 other cat, with whom she did not get along Subjective: Hissing, alert Observed Behavior – Charging kennel door. Lunged at the assess-a-hand to bite. Placed in Freeman net for exam – limited exam due to behavior. Pt continued yowling and growling throughout exam. Objective BAR-H, MMs pink, BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted. Unable to as Oral Exam: Unable to perform PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Tense, no masses palpated U/G: Female, reported spayeed MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal exterally Assessment 1. Geriatric – no suspected underlying diseases Prognosis: Fair-good Plan: Placement 1088
Vomited several times today – food and water. Rec perform CBC/chemistry. 1088
CBC – normal Hct, WBC, etc. Chemistry – slightly elevated GGT (g), normal ALT and alk phos A: Vomiting – R/O mild pancreatitis vs. other P: Start Simbadol 0.4 ml SQ SID x3 days and Cerenia 0.35 ml SQ SID x4 days, LRS 150 ml SQ SID x3 days, monitor for further vomiting 1088
Sha-Sha was scheduled for an am tx of Simbadol 1.8mg/mL. Gave 0.4mL SQ from bottle #47 at 8:40am. DVM 1382 LVT 1215

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake, Sha-Sha was calm and relaxed inside of the cardboard carrier she was brought in. No further interaction occurred because she was being transferred to MACC right after the intake was completed.

Basic Information:: Sha-Sha is an 11 year old female orange tabby cat. Sha-Sha lived with previous owner for about 11 years and was surrendered because owner is elderly and can no longer take care of her. Sha-Sha has no injuries or health problems and has not been taken to the vet recently.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Sha-Sha stopped using the litter box when a male cat was brought into the home. Sha-Sha began pooping and peeing outside of the litter box every day. Sha-Sha’s owner cleaned the litter box about 3 times a week and tried to relocate the litter box but this did not help.
Previously lived with:: Sha-Sha previously lived with one adult and one cat.
How is this cat around strangers?: Sha-Sha is fearful around strangers. Sha-Sha will always keep her distance and will hiss if a stranger approaches her and tries to pet her.
How is this cat around children?: Sha-Sha has previously interacted with children aged 8 and 10 years old. Sha-Sha
How is this cat around other cats?: Sha-Sha previously lived with an 8 year old neutered domestic short haired cat. Sha-Sha began having litter box accidents when the new cat was brought into the home. Sha-Sha will not interact with the other cat and will keep her distance.
How is this cat around dogs?: Sha-Sha has not interacted with dogs.
Behavior Notes: During car rides, Sha-Sha is relaxed or sleeping. Sha-Sha has never been bathed or had her nails trimmed. Sha-sha does not like to have her coat brushed and will run away. Sha-Sha is not bothered when being put into a carrier. Sha-Sha has never been disturbed while she rests.
Bite history:: Sha-Sha has never bitten another animal or human.

Medical Notes: Sha-Sha has no known medical issues.
For a New Family to Know: Sha-Sha is an independent, fearful, and aloof cat. Sha-Sha will follow her owner around at home. Sha-Sha was kept as an indoors only cat and would sleep with her owner on the bed. Sha-Sha was free-fed dry food every day. Sha-Sha used to be litter box trained before the addition of the new cat. Sha-Sha had available an uncovered litter box with Fresh Step Cat litter. Sha-Sha had a scratching post but would instead scratch on cabinets and walls.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Sha-Sha was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 12/24 Subjective: Hissing, alert
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Sha-Sha remains hiding in the cat den during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Sha-Sha shows no interest and remains in place .
Reaction to cage door opening:: Sha-Sha slowly comes out from the cat den, alert with soft eyes, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Sha-Sha briefly allows the touch on the head, but becomes agitated and swats at the assessor’s hand followed by hissing.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Sha-Sha may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
