ENRICHMENT NOTES:
05/25/18
Tense and crouched in the back of the kennel. Lip licks and shrinks body when approached. Body twitches when touched, but allows slow petting along body. Eats treats when offered. Wouldn’t come forward when coaxed.
05/27/18
Curled up in back of kennel, body and face tensed. Hisses as kennel door opens. Tolerates petting along head and body with the bear-claw while hissing and flattening ears. Whips head back to watch the scratcher. Not interested in treats at the moment – flinches when I place them in front of her. Very uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust.
05/28/18
Lying in back of kennel body low and tense. Tail is wrapped around body. Tolerates petting along head and body while flattening ears and hissing. Turns head to watch the scratcher with a tense face and licks lips. Nervous and uncomfortable, I left her some treats and left her alone.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Scarlett was lying down by the back and appeared neutral.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Scarlett leans forward slightly and makes eye contact, but remains by the back.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Scarlett hisses and her ears bend flat against her head. She can be heard growling.
Reaction to touch:
Scarlett focuses on the assessor and growls. She allows gentle petting with a very slow approach, but is tense and appears uncomfortable.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Mellow
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Shy
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Scarlett has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Scarlett tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
