A1116170 Sarge – Experienced determination; Remains in a crouched position when approached, alert. He focuses on the assessor and hisses when touched, his ears tilting sideways. He tolerates gentle petting with a really slow approach, but he continues to focus on the assessor’s hand and appears very uncomfortable.

07/02/17 11:39 Basic Information: Sarge is a 5 year old male that has no previous or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Sarge for 5 years but had to surrender due to landlord issues. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers, Sarge is friendly and outgoing. He plays gently with adults. He has been around children ages 1+ and was always relaxed and respectful around them. Owner had another female cat in the home and a female small dog and stated that Sarge was always relaxed and respectful around them. Sarge does not have a bite history. Behavior: Owner has never tried to bathe Sarge or trim her nails so behavior is unknown. He is not bothered when owner would try to pick him up and hold him, brush his coat, put him into a carrier or disturb him while he is sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Sarge is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow and quiet. He has a medium activity level and likes to play with balls and strings. In the home, Sarge liked to follow the owner around from room to room. He was kept indoors only and is litter box trained. In the home, Sarge used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Owner did not have a scratching post in the home and stated that Sarge would scratch on the furniture in the home. In the home, Sarge was fed dry food only brand Deli cat. Behavior during intake: Sarge has a relaxed body during intake. Counselor was able to scan him for a mc, collar and take a picture without any issues. Sarge then began to flee and hiss. He put up a struggle being put back into the carrier.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Docile EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Sarge was crouched and alert in her litter box. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sarge remains completely immobile and doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Sarge remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Sarge turns his head, focuses on the assessor and lip licks when approached. His ears tilt sideways and he hisses when touched on his head. He tolerates touch but watches the assessor’s hand and seems very uncomfortable. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Sarge may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
