MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
08/19/2017 Exam Type MS NEW URI – Medical Rating is 3 C – MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is BEGINNER, Weight 7.0 LBS.
Mild mucoid ocular discharge OU, mild serous nasal discharge. Pt seems a little quiet today. Move to isolation, start doxycycline 0.7 ml PO SID x10 days, erythromycin OU BID x10 days Feline upper respiratory infections (URIs) are usually caused by a virus, but sometimes there is a bacterial infection in addition to the viral infection. At ACC we treat URIs with an antibiotic (doxycycline) to treat the bacterial component, but the virus just has to run its course, just like a head cold in a human. This may take 7-14 days, or even a little longer if the virus isn’t fully beaten by the body, and then re-emerges. During this time, your cat may not want to eat because the nasal discharge makes it hard for him or her to smell the food. Please tempt your cat to eat with canned tuna fish, tuna juice flavoring his or her regular food or any other delicious and smelly items. Please come back for a veterinary exam if your pet: a) is not “turning the corner” and starting to get better within 5 days b) is still sick and coughing in 2 weeks c) is extremely sick, weak, or not eating at any point and you are concerned 1088
08/07/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/07/17 17:30 Counselor interacted with Santo in the intake room. He allowed handling but was attempting to flee from the carrier so counselor did not collar him. He put his paw through the carrier door a lot when the counselors hand was near, not in an attempt to scratch, but in a playful way. He also nibbled on the counselors fingers, in a playful way. He was vocal while in the carrier in the intake room. I was able to collar him and trim his nails.
