Hello, my name is Sampson. My animal id is #12759. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 16-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- job loss – (fired, laid off).
Sampson is at risk due to having an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Sampson will require monitoring for progress in recovery while taking a course of antibiotics. there are no known behavior concerns for Sampson at this time, beginner determination.

Scanned neg, MC placed History : Owner surrender, came in with 1 other cat Subjective: Alert, crouched to table Observed Behavior – Allows all handling Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 5/9 EENT: Mild mucoid nasal discharge. Eyes clear, ears clean. Oral Exam: Clean adult teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact, testicles S/S MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: URI Prognosis: Good Plan: Doxycycline 0.5 ml PO SID x10 days SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI 1088

Sampson had very soft body. He allowed to be picked up from his carrier, leaned in for rubs and purred while counselor collard him. He posed for photograph and allowed to be placed in a kennel.

Previously lived with:: Owner’s seven year old daughter and his sister and his siter, Nina
How is this cat around strangers?: He is very friendly and outgoing around strangers.
How is this cat around children?: He is relaxed, affectionate and playful around owner’s seven year old daughter. And was gentle when playing with her.
How is this cat around other cats?: He is relaxed, affectionate and respectful around his sister Nina.
How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown
Behavior Notes: He often scratched on furniture and meows when riding in a car. He struggles when given baths but enjoys his coat brushed or when picked up and held. He isn’t bothered when placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping.

He was fed both dry and wet food three times daily, is house trained and used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter.

Reaction to being picked up:: Sampson sits calmly in the assessor’s arms and continues to purr.
