08/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sam was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The enrichment facilitator has been monitoring Sam and reports that he would hiss as you approach him then back away and hide in his litter box. He closes his eyes when pet along his body and he warms up when held. During his stay he’s definitely warmed up to contact and will now stay near the front of the kennel playing with his toys. Reaction to assessor: Sam was at the front of the kennel playing with his ball toys. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sam quickly stops playing then looks at the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Sam is alert and takes a step back. Reaction to touch: Sam stays in place and closes his eyes when pet along his body. He slowly warms up and raises his body when pet. Reaction to being picked up: Sam is a bit tense when held but allows all handling. His body slowly relaxes and he leans in when rubbed on his cheeks. Behavior Determination: Experience Sam may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
