Details on my behavior are…
Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy for a few minutes then warms up Behavior toward children: Relaxed and gentle Behavior toward cats: Lived with another cat and respectful and gentle Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly, mellow, and quiet with a medium activity level. Other notes: She likes to be held and walks right into the carrier. She loves to play with toys she can chase such as wands, strings and laser pointers. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Growling in carrier. Hissing and swatting on approach ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/13/17 Lying in center of kennel, ears flattened. Makes eye contact and growls. She watches the bear-claw as it moves forward and hisses once before giving it one strong swat. Uncomfortable – needs more time to adjust. 09/14/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel, growling and making eye contact. She sniffs the air and comes forward to eat the treat I’ve placed in front of her kennel. I click and reward each time she remains relaxed while coming forward. Not yet ready for petting, she’s hissing and swatting whenever I attempt to touch her. Cage Condition: Cage is recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Sally was relaxed and lying down on her blanket. Reaction when softly spoken to: Sally perks up then comes forward to solicit attention. Reaction to cage door opening: Sally pauses and lip licks. Reaction to touch: Sally sniffs the assessor, then leans in allowing rubs on her cheeks and petting all over her body. Her tail sways back and forth every time the assessor pets her along her back but she remains calm, and doesn’t display any further reaction. Reaction to being picked up: Sally was a bit tense when picked up, but she remains calm and allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social Sweet Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation Potential challenges comments: Sally is social and affectionate but appears to show signs of overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Sally becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Although intially fearful, Sally has acclimated to her new enviornment and now allows attention and petting. She has shown signs of becoming overstimulated recently during her stay in our care center and because of this behavior we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
