***SAFE 12/15/17*** BEAUTIFUL SAHARA HAS A KITTY COLD AND MUST EXIT THE SHELTER NOW – WILL YOU HELP HER? SAHARA was brought in because finder said she was hit by a car. However she was found to be healthy and just upset that she is at the shelter. Now that SAHARA has been in the shelter she caught the kitty cold and has been given the boot! She is confused and accepts attention but the shelter environment is stressing her out. PLEASE GIVE THIS 2 YEAR OLD PANTHERETTE A HOME OF HER OWN – RESERVE BY NOON!!

Sahara is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Sahara would be best suited to an adult only cat experienced home.

S/O -BAR, fractious, growling and lunges when approached -no nasal discharge or sneezing -OU: open and clear -eupnic -clean coat, ambulatory without any lameness -BCS 6/9 A appears healthy, overweight P okay to spay already spay
S/O -QAR, allows gentle handling but will swat unpredictably -mild appetite with dry kibble -moderate hypersalivation -sneezing, serous nasal discharge, moderate nasal congestion -eupnic A URI P move to isolation doxycycline 0.9 ml PO SID x 10 days cerenia 0.5 ml SQ once daily x 2 days nebulize SID x 4 days
Unable to shave for scar. 10.6lb weight. FVRCP LHL due to behavior. Alerted surgery group for CT and sedated palpation/spay surgery.

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake this cat allowed minimal handling. She allowed being lifted. Counselor collared and placed in a carrier. When touched near her legs she began to hiss and meow. No further handling was performed.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Sahara was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Her finders reported she was hit by a car. Upon intake this cat allowed minimal handling. When touched near her legs she began to hiss and meow.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – will act calm then suddenly hiss and swat
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Sahara approaches the front and sniffs around, looking with dilated eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Sahara continues to sniff and look around.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Sahara becomes alert and backs away.
Reaction to touch:: Sahara meows very softly and appears unsure. She sniffs the assessor’s hand, but shifts away when petting was attempted. She rubs on cage furnishings and accepts gentle petting on her head, but she moves away when overwhelmed. She appears conflicted; she seems to like attention, but will shift away after brief contact.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Sahara tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
