***SAFE 08/11/16*** AN UNLIKELY SECOND CHANCE FOR A LOVELY KITTEN! Why is the ACC so darn intent on killing KITTENS tomorrow? It’s almost as if someone decided—-hey, it’s the weekend, let’s live large and kill a bunch of kittens. Two of the kittens they have on their kill list are HURST and RUSTY, strays who have only been at the shelter since July 29th. RUSTY is a young lad, HURST is a young lass, and both kittens earned EXPNOCHILD ratings from the ACC. This pair are scared, feeling vulnerable, and would appreciate some TLC. With some love and understanding and good chow, RUSTY and HURST should be able to grow up into spectacular companions! Please advocate unceasingly for RUSTY and HURST, tonight!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rusty was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to him behavior in him previous home. Reaction to assessor: Rusty was curled up on her blanket with her tail tucked at her side. Reaction when softly spoken to: Rusty’s eyes widen and he starts to breathe heavily. Reaction to cage door opening: Rusty remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Rusty leans away from contact and shifts away to the back of the kennel. He hisses upon approach, has a tense/ stiff body when pet and lip licks throughout the entire interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Hurst is very tense and hisses when picked up. He retreats to the back when placed down and avoids contact. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Rusty tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his or her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
