KNOWN HISTORY: Rugers was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Will try to flee, attempts to bite when close to mouth EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Rugers was curled up in the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Rugers turns towards the assessor, slow blinks and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Rugers remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Rugers appears hesitant and leans away when the assessor extends his hand out. She slowly warms up to touch, lifts her rear when rubbed on her back and allows petting with a slow, gentle approach. Reaction to being picked up: Rugers was a bit tense when picked up, but remained calm and allowed all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Sweet Please note that Rugers is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent Rugers may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
