Hello, my name is Ruby. My animal id is #16834. I am a desexed female orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 4 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 24-Dec-2017.

Ruby is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Ruby, whom we believe would be suitable even for beginner cat homes.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 2.25 years per our previous records (pt was here as a kitten in early 2016) Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned positive on intake History : Surrendered. Pt has been urinating and defecating outside of the litterbox recently. Subjective: Alert, quiet, looks around Observed Behavior – Tense but allows all handling Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 7/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Moderate tartar and gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female, spay scar palpated. Pt was spayed here in 2016. MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: 1. Urinating and defecating outside the litterbox – R/O stress in the home or other behavioral cause 2. Dental disease 3. Overweight Prognosis: Good Plan: 1. Recommend weight loss of 1-3 lbs 2. Recommend dental cleaning and daily tooth brushing 3. Recommend attention to stress level, monitor urination habits, litterbox placement etc 1088
S: Quiet, lying down in kennel O: Sneezing, serous nasal discharge A: URI P: Move to isolation, monitor for 7-10 days. No treatment at this time because infection is likely viral. Provide supportive care as it becomes necessary. 1088

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Ruby had a loose body upon intake. She was receptive to handling and allowed collaring. She went in and out the carrier with little encouragement. She enjoyed head rubs and headbutted the admissions counselor. She lay on the counter to be petted but would not stay still for pictures. She paced in circles twisting her head side to side.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Ruby was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 12/24 Observed Behavior – Tense but allows all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Resting in litter box, soft eyes and body. Lay in place when door opened, started lip licking. Allowed touch, then came to the front, tail up, started leaning and arching into pets with more enthusiasm, purred.

Reaction to assessor:: Ruby engages when approached by the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Ruby remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Ruby seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.
