Hello, my name is Rubio. My animal id is #11280. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 31-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Rubio is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Rubio will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. At this time there are no behavior concerns for Rubio (Beginner determination).

Pre-op exam S: Calm, head-butts, allows all handling O: BAR-H, BCS 5/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: No discharge OU, AU, nose. Mild tartar. PLNs: Not significantly enlarged. H/L: NSR, NMA. Eupnic, quiet lung sounds. Abd: Soft, no pain on palpation, no masses palpated M/S/I: Amb x4. No skin lesions noted. UG: Male intact, testicles soft and symmetrical. Neuro: Alert and appropriate, no sign neurological deficiencies A: Mild tartar Short-term prognosis: Good P: Neuter. Recommend daily tooth brushing and regular dental cleanings. 1088
Hx: Neutered yesterday. Medium nasal planum ulceration. Sneezing. Scrotum is small, not swollen, no discharge. The skin for about 4-5 inches surrounding the scrotum is bruised and purple. Start doxycycline 1.1 ml PO SID x10 days, and LRS 150 ml SQ SID x3 days. Continue Onsior 9 mg PO SID x4 days.
0.0.11mL dexdomitor, 0.05mL butorphanol, 0.55 mL ketamine induction. 0.7mL Simbadol injectable and 0.55 mL Onsior for pain management.

Upon intake, Rubio’s body was tense and stiff. Rubio allowed to be collared and picked up and tried to flee when picture had to be taken.
Basic Information:: Rubio is a 1 1/2 year old orange tabby male cat. Rubio previous lived with owners for about 1 1/2 years before being surrendered because the owner has allergies. Rubio has no injuries or health issues and has not been taken to the vet recently.
Previously lived with:: Rubio previously lived with one adult, one child and three cats.
How is this cat around strangers?: Rubio will hide from strangers and will not come out until strangers have left.
How is this cat around children?: Rubio lived with a 3 year old child. Rubio is relaxed and affectionate and will allow to be pet and picked up.
How is this cat around other cats?: Rubio previously lived with 3 other cats. Rubio is playful and affectionate with his roommates and plays gentle.
How is this cat around dogs?: Rubio has not interacted with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Rubio likes to scratch the walls and hides in fear from new people. During car rides, Rubio is relaxed or sleeping. Rubio has been bathed before but he struggles during the process. Rubio is not bothered when getting his nails trimmed. Rubio is not bothered when his coat is brushed and enjoys being picked up and held. Rubio is also not bothered when being put into a carrier or when being disturbed as she sleeps.
Bite history:: Rubio has never tried to bite another animal or human.

For a New Family to Know: Rubio is an affectionate and playful cat. When at home, Rubio likes to follow you around and be in the same room as you. Rubio does not really like to play with toys and is an indoors only cat. Rubio was fed a mixture of wet and dry food 3 to 4 times a day. Rubio is litter box trained and uses a hooded litter box with Fresh Step litter. Rubio has a scratching post made from carpet that she likes to use.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Resting on bedding in cubby, soft eyes and body. Chirped when spoken to, rolled over. Lay in place when door opened, leaned into pets, purred.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Rubio engages when approached by the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Rubio remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Rubio seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Rubio head bunts the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: Allows the pickup and remains calm.
