09/14/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Rogue was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Tried to flee, bite when getting out of cage, brief exam done in net ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/12/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low body, ears titled. Head is lowered onto kennel floor. Babies are nursing. She tolerates petting along her head and body while remaining very still and tense. Needs more time to adjust. 09/13/17 Lying in back of kennel with a flat body, ears titled. She avoids eye contact when spoken to. Her kittens are on the other-side of the kennel – she seems to have no interest in them. I place them next to her and they squirm around trying to find milk as she remains in her low, flat position. Ears are flattened. She tolerates petting along her head and body with a low body and flat ears. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Rogue was lying down completely flat at the back of the cage with her ears pinned back. Reaction when softly spoken to: Rogue lip licks, watches the assessor with wide eyes and slowly inches back. Reaction to cage door opening: Rogue is tense and hyper alert. Reaction to touch: Rogue follows the assessor’s movements and tolerates petting with a very slow approach. Her body feels tense/stiff, she seems very uncomfortable and remains completely immobile with flattened ears and her tail tucked at her side. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Rogue has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Rogue tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
