KNOWN HISTORY: Relish was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on her behavior in her previous home. She was fearful during intake and attempted to hide, but she allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Slightly tense, does not come to front of cage, but allows all handling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Relish was in her litter box, lying down with a low body posture. Reaction when softly spoken to: Relish becomes alert and looks up, but averts her gaze after. Reaction to cage door opening: Relish becomes stiff and lowers her head. Reaction to touch: Relish was hesitant, but she accepts gentle petting with a slow approach. She closes her eyes, but is tense when pet along her body. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Relish tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
