RAPHAEL – A1064957
Safe - 2-17-2016 Manhattan Rescue: Staten Island Hope Please honor your pledges: http://www.statenislandhoperescue.org/
*** SAFE 02/17/16 *** This FIV+ ANGEL needs an angel of his own, tonight! RAPHAEL is looking a little worse for the wear in his shelter intake photo, and his medical notes confirm this. A boo-boo here, some swollen lymph nodes there, and that positive FIV status make for a cat who needs a foster/adopter who can make sure he gets the care and love he needs. RAPHAEL earned a solid EXPERIENCE rating, which means he can be reserved online by someone who wants to adopt him, or he can be foster/adopted through a New Hope rescue. Remember, anyone who fosters can just concentrate on loving Raphael while the rescue foots the vet bill! If YOU can foster/adopt him, please email [email protected] with any questions. Anyone else—please advocate strongly for RAPHAEL tonight!

02/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Raphael was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finder found him in a junkyard and he allowed handling upon intake. He was vocal during his initial medical exam and was nervous due to his limited sight, but he allowed all handling. Please not that this cat is being treated for a severe medical condition at the time of the evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. Reaction to assessor: Raphael was sleeping upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Raphael shifts his body slightly and continues to sleep. Reaction to cage door opening: Raphael remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Raphael remains completely still and does not display a reaction when pet on his head and along his body. The assessor shifts his body slightly to get a better look at him, but he just meows softly and lowers his head. Reaction to being picked up: Raphael remains soft and allows handling. Behavior Determination: Experience Raphael tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. Due to his medical condition, we do not know how much it may be affecting his behavior. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
